We were very fortunate to be involved in a 6 week Harmony Project with Yarn Strong Sista and our kindergarten. The program involved Somali and Indigenous women from our centre and the local community working together to learn about each others cultures through storytelling, craft, cooking and having a yarn together. The program was fantastic in bringing women together to share their stories and their cultures. Their children came along to join in this with their families. When I was talking to families later in the year about the year at kindergarten, many of the women spoke about this project and how wonderful it was to learn and share their stories/cultures and to develop friendships. The children remembered the hand painting, the food, the laughter and the amazing huge fish we had for lunch one day! The craft work and photos from these sessions now hang very proudly in our centre and reminds us of what unites as a community and our committment to building strong bridges between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians. Thanks to Annette and Sue for this wonderful project!
