Description

Written in Kriol and English, this is the story of Molly, a little pig who is rescued from the bush. She’s taken back to the community where she finds a happy home. Happy, that is, apart from the local dogs who keep chasing and frightening her.

Moli is greatly loved in her community, but what she loves most is Weet Bix. She loves it so much that it’s not too long before little Moli is a very big pig indeed. So big, she now chases and frightens the local dogs. All in good fun, of course.

The illustrations are an absolute delight, and watching Molly grow and grow and grow will bring a smile to readers’ faces and outright laughter at the end.

AUTHOR INFORMATION

Karen Manbullo lives in Binjari, a small Aboriginal community about 20 kilometres west of Katherine in the Northern Territory. She has four children. She likes to go fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with her family. She wouldn’t want to live anywhere else but Binjari. Moli det Bigibigi is based on a true story – her brother found the little piglet lost in the bush and brought her home.

The illustrators, Binjari Buk Mob, consists of 24 women from the Binjari community outside Katherine in the Northern Territory. Under the auspices of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, the women, together with illustrator Julie Haysom and linguist Denise Angelo, have produced 9 bilingual books (Kriol and English), a significant contribution not only to their community but to Kriol-speaking communities across Australia.
