Yarn Strong Brutha is a new entity, a First Nations Fashion Label and Aboriginal Homewares Business under the arm of  Yarn Strong Sista  which has been in operation for 20 years.

“Yarn Strong Brutha’s Logo was inspired by the patterns I saw when collecting Ochre, a precious mineral, a Gift from Taungurung Country.      I am grateful to have been taught where and how to source Ochre by Taungurung Elder, the late Uncle Roy Patterson.  By sharing his knowledges, Uncle Roy ensured that his teachings were passed down, continuing the cycle of Reclaiming, Reviving and Representing Culture.” Annette Sax, Taungurung Designer

Yarn Strong Brutha is a new entity, a First Nations Fashion Label and Aboriginal Homewares Business under the arm of Yarn Strong Sista which has been in operation for 20 years.

YSB Collection is designed in Narrm (Melbourne) and created in Nepal through Fair Trade. Yarn Strong Brutha works with organisations who are committed to social justice, where fair wages are paid, women and families are supported through education and economic empowerment.

Original Ochre Paintings by Annette Sax, Creative Director of YSS are inspired by her
Family/Community Stories and Gifts from Taungurung Country. These beautiful hand made
products of bamboo, cashmere, silk, wool, and ceramics, bring to life the Taungurung colors and
shapes of the environment.

Our YSB Fashion Accessories have been inspired by the elements of Land, Waterways, and Sky Country. Annette creates symbols to reflect the Teachings of her Elders and Ancestors when painting with Ochre on canvas. These Ochre shapes include rounded squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, and line work. Annette has been taught her Cultural Knowledges by her Taungurung Elders and has permission to transfer this symbolism into her designs.

Symbols of Bunjil (Eagle), Marran (Gumleaves), Yaba Yaba (Ant Home) are hand screen printed by Artisans onto natural fibers of bamboo, pashmina, and cashmere.  We hope you feel the warmth of these stories when wearing our YSB Scarves and Wraps.
